An Exchange 2000/2003 mailbox may have multiple SMTP addresses assosiated with it. For example, John Doe has a mailbox with a primary SMTP address of john.doe@company.com and secondary SMTP addresses of johnd@company.com, john2@company.com and john3@company.com. John wishes for emails sent to his secondary SMTP addresses to be automatically placed in 2 folders he has created, “John2” and “John3”. Both folders exist on the upper level, i.e. on the same level as Inbox, Outbox etc.
SmartMover for Exchange 2000/2003 application will move messages to specific folders based upon the name part of the recipient’s SMTP address.
So, if a message is sent to john2@company.com, it will be moved to the John2 folder, if a message is sent to john3@company.com, it will be moved to the John3 folder. However if a message is sent to johnd@company.com, it will be placed in the default Inbox folder, as there is no JohnD folder in his mailbox. A message sent to john.doe@company.com will also be placed in the default Inbox folder, as john.doe@company.com is his default (primary) address.
The application is an Exchange store event sink.
Benefits
- You can set up SmartMover on per-mailbox basis or as “store-wide” application, i.e. it will work on each user’s Inbox in the certain Exchange 2000/2003 mailbox store
- The application is server-centric, so you do not need to install any extra software on the client side
