Using MS Outlook automatic formatting you can highlight items that meet different conditions. For example, you could use automatic formatting to colorize messages sent only to you in blue, messages cc’d to you in green, and messages sent to you and cc’d to others in red.

But there are no simple ways to colorize ingoing messages based on SMTP mail headers. Consider the following scenario: your company runs Exchange 2000/2003 server and some anti-spam software that can assign the spam score to each ingoing message. The SMTP header like “X-SpamLevel: ***” is added to each incoming message. You are using Outlook 2000/XP/2003 and wish to colorize the messages in your Inbox based on their spam score.
HeaderToCategory for Exchange 2000/2003 application converts all SMTP mail headers to categories for each incoming message. That allows user easily create rules to differentiate important e-mails automatically using multiple colors and fonts based on e-mail header information.

The application is an Exchange store event sink.

Benefits

  • You can set up HeaderToCategory on per-mailbox basis or as “store-wide” application, i.e. it will work on each user’s Inbox in the certain Exchange mailbox store
  • The application is server-centric, so you do not need to install any extra software on the client side
